How to Easily Kick higher & Kick Harder!

As the title says, this is a simple and easy explanation of how to improve your kick – either with the focus on height of the kick or on how hard the kick will hit it’s target.

Easily improving the height of your kick:

Leaning your shoulders away from your target will open up your hips and side body (of the kicking leg) allowing you to raise your foot higher.IMG_4475

Some points about kicking like this:

  • your bodyweight is behind the standing foot.
  • balance can be harder
  • hips open more (greater range of motion/height).
  • easier to kick high.
  • less bodyweight delivered in kick (compared to shoulders forward).
  • good for defensive kicking – moving away

Now, easily improving the power of your kick:

Leaning your shoulders in toward your target will send your body weight forwards through your leg and into your target – connecting with a greater impact.IMG_4478

Some points about kicking like this:

  • body weight is directly above standing leg (travelling forward)
  • the kick’s reach is increased
  • your position is more solid
  • it is harder to kick as high
  • much more force delivered in this kick
  • good for attacking (aggressive) kicking -moving in

You can see these differences when these images are compared with each other.

Try these changes next time you train and feel the difference! If this can help anyone you know then please do share it with them.
